지난해 국내 대형마트에서 수박이 감귤을 누르고 국산 과일 매출 1위를 기록한 것으로 나타났다. 이로인해 감귤은 지난해 딸기에게 겨울대표 과일의 자리를 내준 이후 연거푸 2위로 밀려나는 수모를 겪고 말았다.
6일 롯데마트에 따르면 이 회사가 창립 이후 지난 15년간 과일 매출을 확인한 결과 지난해 처음으로 수박이 감귤을 누르고 국산 과일 왕좌 자리에 등극한 것으로 나타났다.
감귤은 2001년 사과를 제치고 국산 과일 매출 1위에 올라선 이후 2012년까지 12년간 단 한번도 국산 과일 왕좌 타이틀을 내준 적이 없었다.
하지만 지난해 3~4월부터 시작된 이른 더위로 수박 산지인 전북 고창과 완주 등에서 본격 물량이 전년보다 2~3주 정도 앞당겨진 4월 초부터 출하됐다.
수박의 경우 일반적으로 6~7월에 전체 과일 중 매출 1위를 차지하며, 보통 8월 말복 이후에는 차츰 수요가 줄어들지만, 지난 여름, 낮 기온이 30도가 넘는 폭염이 지속되면서, 말복 이후 9월 중순까지도 수박 매출이 지속적으로 발생했다.
실제로 롯데마트에서 지난해 말복 이후인 8월 13~24일까지 수박 매출은 전년 같은 기간보다 115.7%나 늘었으며, 연간 8월 과일 매출 순위에서도 포도·복숭아를 제치고 창사 이래 처음으로 1위에 올라서기도 했다는 것이다.
그러나 감귤의 경우 제주 지역에 일찍 찾아온 더위와 여름철 가뭄으로 생육이 부진하며, 가격이 상승하고 저장성도 떨어져 지난해 12월 과일 순위에서 처음으로 딸기에 1위 자리를 내주는 등 고전을 면치 못하고 있는 상황이 잇따라 발생했다.
국산과일과 달리 수입 과일중에는 바나나가 3년 연속 1위에 올랐다.
2011년부터는 전체 과일 순위에서도 기존 1위였던 감귤을 제치고 1위에 올라선 바나나는 과육이 연하고, 소화 흡수가 잘되면서 칼륨·미네랄이 풍부해 뇌졸증 예방에도 도움을 주기 때문에 수요가 증가한 것으로 마트 측은 분석했다.
